Perched high above the landscape on a dramatic 400-foot bluff, this home takes the familiar language of Lowcountry architecture somewhere entirely unexpected.
The site presented its share of challenges, but it also offered something remarkable: treetop views and beautiful natural light in nearly every direction. The design grew from both. Expansive stained-wood windows frame the landscape, while reclaimed white oak floors, limestone, marble, and warm wood details give the interiors a sense of permanence and character.
Inside, we drew the color palette from the Southern landscape just beyond the windows. Soft, natural tones move quietly from one room to the next, creating a sense of continuity throughout the home and keeping the connection to the outdoors always within reach.
We also looked backward as we moved forward. A number of pieces from the owners’ previous home were reimagined and given new purpose here—proof that creating something new doesn’t mean leaving behind the things you already love. Mixing those familiar pieces with new furnishings and finishes gave the home the layered, collected feeling we wanted from the beginning.
Traditional details are interpreted with a fresh perspective throughout. An enclosed hallway recalls the charm of an old Southern dogtrot. Stained beams and exterior trim add warmth to the architecture, while a limestone fireplace anchors the living spaces. Even the more intimate rooms take advantage of the setting—including a breakfast nook overlooking the trees that may have one of the best seats in the house.
The result is a home rooted in its surroundings, respectful of its past, and designed for the life unfolding within it.
